A Guide To Breaks And Holidays In The UK
A Guide To Breaks And Holidays In The UK
It is almost considered the norm nowadays for people to take time out from their daily routine to experience perhaps a backpacking adventure around the world or a trip to Australia for a year.
Indeed the majority of holiday goers venture abroad. The attractions are obvious: guaranteed sunshine golden sandy beaches and cheap beer.
Its fair to say that the UK tourist industry finds it difficult to complete: if asked when they last had a holiday in the UK substantial numbers of holidaymakers many of whom would probably consider themselves welltravelled might be left scratching their heads.
Perhaps they would recall a distant memory of a caravan holiday in Devon taken during the mid1980s where it rained constantly.
It is a shame that the UK is often over looked by the holiday going masses because there are some great affordable UK breaks available. Finding the best deal is now easier than ever with a host of internet sites providing all the information you need to help you decide what option suits you best.
For those of you who arent convinced then heres one UK holiday option to consider.
Holiday homes and cottages
A great option for families or larger groups as you can usually find accommodation large enough for everyone. Theyre a real home away from home perfect if you want peace and quiet. Theyre also great if you want the freedom to come and go as you please with no set meal times or itineraries to keep to.
If youre planning a break in a UK holiday cottage then you should take into consideration the following:
Budget take into account travelling expenses as its easy to overspend. Also most holiday homes charge by the week for the whole property not on a per person basis. This can work out in your advantage if you are in a large group but if you are in a group of four into a holiday home large enough to accommodate eight people then expect it to work out as a more expensive.
Selfcatering be prepared to cater for yourselves as cottage holidays are generally selfcatering. Most cottages will have a kitchen with all the utensils that you would expect but its always a good idea to enquire about the facilities beforehand. Remember to bring some basic provisions with you to avoid having to make a supermarket run as soon as you arrive.
Date Be prepared to book in advance especially during peak seasons such as school holidays and the Christmas period. The best places can sometimes be booked up a year in advance by repeat holidaymakers so be prepared to be flexible with you dates.
